Patterns – Knitting and Sewing

Sewing

If you like to sew and would like to help, there are three ways you can contribute.
Each woman is given a fabric bag to hold her clinic items. Also, hats are popular with the ladies at our clinic. And lastly, post-mastectomy comfort PILLOWS are given to those who need them.

Knitting

If knitting is your calling, you can support the cause by knitting in two ways: by knitting ‘TIT BITS’, or by knitting comfort dolls. ‘Tit Bits’ are in inserted into bras to help restore the illusion of a full breast.
NOTE: For this years clinic, we need larger sizes, D, DD, and bigger. Knitted only, no crocheted tit bits, please. Skin tone or light soft yarns are preferred. No nipples, unstuffed.

Tit Bit Pattern

You will need a set (four) of double pointed needles to knit this pattern. Size 3 (US 5), or size 4 (US 6) will work depending on the weight of your yarn. Choose a yarn that is light in color and soft.

Cast on 9 stitches leaving end of yarn approximately 6 “on one needle.

Take 2nd needle and knit 3 stitches increasing on 2nd last stitch. With 3rd needle knit 3 stitches from 1st needle increasing on 2nd last stitch. Knit remaining stitches on 1st needle and increase 2nd last stitch.

You should now have 4 stitches on each needle.

KNIT:  all rounds remembering to increase one stitch on each needle by knitting the front and the back of the 2nd last stitch.

When you have about 10 stitches on each needle:

***Using a bodkin or darning needle pull through Cast On yarn end to center of tit-bit to the inside and fasten.

Continue knitting until you have the required number of stitches for:

Size A –  24 stitches on each needle           4.5”  diameter across
Size B –  26 stitches on each needle            5”     diameter across
Size C –  30 stitches on each needle            5.5”  diameter across
Size  D – 34 stiches on each needle            6”     diameter across
Size DD – 36 stitches on each needle         6.5”  diameter across

Purl: 4 rounds

Return to knitting every round decreasing one stitch on each needle by knitting to last 3 stitches – K2tg, K1.

Continue until 12 stitches remain (4 stitches on each needle).
Cut yarn leaving about l0 inches. Use a darning needle or bodkin to pull yarn through the remaining stitches and leave loose. This will create a draw string allowing opening and closing for filling with stuffing. (Poly Fiber Fil).
